KYRGYZ HORSE
EXPEDITION

6 MONTHS, 3 HORSES, 2500 KMS
ONE GREAT ADVENTURE

Kyrgyzstan – the land of free men and horses.

There comes a time for every dedicated traveller to blaze a trail of their own on an expedition. We've marked the Kyrgyz summer of 2011 as that time for us. We're planning a horsey adventure that will take us beyond the pale of touristic travel and onto the ancient bridle paths of the Silk Road.

You can read about the route, the dangers, the average (we hope) day on the road, see our much too enormous gear list and find out what inspired us on the Kyrgyz Horse Expedition pages.

The Great Gear List (And Other Expenses)
We've been researching equipment since we first decided on a long ride. Thanks to the Long Riders Guild for their excellent equipment review pages, and also to the hundreds of horsemen and women whose stories I've read and pondered on when deciding what needed to go on this list. Thank you as well

Why Kyrgyzstan? Land of Horses & Free Riders
We didn't pick Kyrgyzstan out of a hat, or with a dart and blindfold. Not only do we already know it's a great country to travel in, with friendly people, fascinating history and spectacular scenery, it's also possibly one of the world's best places to travel by horse over long distances. Lonely

The Kyrgyz Horse Expedition is born
Not an Idle Dreamer (A discourse on the hard labour involved in a life of frivolity and grand plans revealed) It's been ages since I've posted to the dreaming track. I've been leaving all the blog work up to poor Doug, who does a much better job at blogging things anyway. I have been ...

Two months on the road
It has been two months since we managed to get ourselves onto a plane Singapore-bound. We've spent most of that time traipsing around peninsular Malaysia. From time to time we've managed to post some pictures or tell a story about some of the beautiful places we've seen. Occasionally we even post ...

Turtle nesting & hatchling release at Cherating Turtle Sanctuary I expected that our moonlight trip to see the turtles would be interesting, cute, fun - a good way to pass a night in sleepy Cherating. I was therefore unprepared for the deeply moving experience it ...

There's something about monks...
Tiger Cave Temple, Krabi, Thailand When I was 10 years old I would run all the way home from school so that I wouldn't miss the first words in the opening credits of my favourite TV show. I can still remember exactly how they sounded - "In the time before Monkey, primal chaos reigned..." Monkey ...
