At work on Tioman Island, Malaysia
It's time to hang up the work clothes. No - seriously!
For the last six weeks, Amber's spent most days sitting in front of a computer churning out code, problem solving and fine tuning for the good folks back home. When she hasn't been doing that, she's been thinking about it. The job's finally done though and now we're looking forward to a holiday.
Back on Indonesian Sulawesi, we'd thought it would be me working collecting images for Photolibrary (yeah I know - Amber's telling me all the time that it's not really work!) while she enjoyed some R&R in the Tanah Torajan valleys. Then Melbourne called asking us to do some real work. ;)
The main factor when programming remotely is obviously access to a decent internet connection in a reasonable work environment. No such thing in Tana Toraja, so we had to cut the photo expedition short and return to Makassar where we eventually found what we needed in the Horison Hotel. Nice place and great people BTW. If you're after higher end accommodation in Makassar we can recommend it.
Makassar was good, but Tioman was fantastic. We had to pay four star hotel rates to work in Makassar but the internet was free. On Tioman we were paying twice as much a day for net access as we were for accommodation, but given that the accommodation was a cabin right on the beach for ten bucks a night, we figured it was an all 'round better deal.
Amber's a bit sad at all the time she spent working while we were on Tioman, but now it's time for some fun in the sun with our good friend Jennifer in Turkey. Except for me, that is. The list of required photos from the Turkish Aegean and Mediterranean coasts is simply staggering!
Sigh....... better get to it :)
