Snorkelling at Pulau Perhentian Besar, MalaysiaWe snorkelled over a few black-tipped reef sharks at Shark Point, just off Pulau Perhentian Besar. We also saw turtles, garfish, anemones, false clown fish, parrot fish, giant clams, golden trevally, spotted sunfish and a bunch of other marine critters I don't have names for. We also chucked our video camera in the housing and took it out for a dip, so you can see them too. It was a brilliant day and we managed to get our backs spectacularly sunburned. We wore shirts but there was so much to see underwater we didn't notice that they were floating around our necks most of the time :p We swam about a kilometre off Teluk Delam into a mini-lagoon formed by giant granite boulders. One of those boulders is shaped like a massive shark fin, which shape, along with the underwater inhabitants, gives the point its name. Unfortunately we didn't film the most amazing sight of the day – a magnificent blue-spotted ribbon-tailed ray, in neon blue and lemon yellow, who glided under a shelf as we watched. The movie doesn't really do justice to the wonderland we found out there (the lens got a bit of condensation which blurred things a bit as well) but we can share with you a little of what we experienced. So take a look at the movie, then chuck your fins in a backpack and go check it out for yourself :) |
